We are live—and we could not be more excited to welcome you to Country Stalls. From our base in Christchurch, we have been building a new home for the growers, bakers, makers, flower sellers, honesty boxes, farm shops, mobile traders and everyday local legends found all over Aotearoa New Zealand.
Country Stalls is here for everyone who has ever driven past a hand-painted roadside sign and wondered, What was down that road? It is for the person with eggs at the gate, the family making preserves, the grower with a brilliant harvest, and the customer who would simply rather buy something good from someone nearby.
Why we built Country Stalls
New Zealand has no shortage of wonderful small sellers. What is often missing is a simple way to find them. Some operate from a gate, shed, trailer, market table, tiny workshop or roadside fridge. They may be open only on certain days or during one season. They do not always have the time, budget or desire to build a complicated online store.
That is the gap Country Stalls exists to close.
Our mission is to help more local people earn from what they grow and create, while making it delightfully simple for customers to discover and support them.
We want small sellers to be visible without asking them to become big businesses. We want customers to open a map and turn “I wonder what is nearby?” into an excellent local find. Most of all, we want more value, relationships and resilience to stay in the communities where good things are grown and made.
What Country Stalls brings to the public
Country Stalls is more than a directory and more relaxed than a giant marketplace. It is a practical connection between local hands and local homes.
| For people exploring | For people selling |
|---|---|
| A live map for discovering stalls, farm shops, makers and mobile sellers nearby. | A public stall page with its own story, location, imagery and useful details. |
| Clear information about products, hours, collection, delivery and payment options. | Simple product, stock and order tools that can be managed from a phone. |
| Ways to buy online where a seller enables checkout, or visit and pay the seller directly. | Choice: start with discovery, then add products, integrated payments, delivery and QR promotion when useful. |
| A quick, mobile-friendly experience for locals, visitors and road-trippers. | A lower-friction route to market without first building an enterprise-sized ecommerce operation. |
Seller identity stays front and centre. Customers meet the stall and the people behind it—not a faceless catalogue. Sellers can choose the tools that suit the way they already operate and grow from there.
Our targets for the next six months
Launch is not the finish line; it is where the useful learning begins. We are keeping our six-month plan focused on the things that will make Country Stalls genuinely better for real sellers and customers.
| Period | What we are targeting | What success should feel like |
|---|---|---|
| Months 1–2 Listen and strengthen | Welcome early stalls, fix rough edges quickly, improve setup guidance and learn what customers actually search for. | Joining feels straightforward, the map feels dependable, and feedback turns into visible improvements. |
| Months 3–4 Grow useful discovery | Build richer regional coverage, sharpen map and search journeys, and help stall pages communicate what is available right now. | More searches end with a worthwhile stop, message or purchase—not a dead end. |
| Months 5–6 Deepen the marketplace | Strengthen seller tools, payment and payout reliability, mobile usability, local partnerships and repeat discovery. | Country Stalls becomes a habit: useful for a weekend drive, the weekly shop and the seller's working day. |
1. Put more genuinely useful places on the map
A map with one lonely pin is a novelty; a map with enough accurate, interesting stops becomes a reason to explore. Our target is useful local density—region by region—with stall information that is current enough to trust.
2. Make joining easier for busy sellers
Many small sellers are already juggling production, weather, family, markets and customers. We will keep reducing avoidable friction in stall setup, product listing, location choices, payment onboarding and day-to-day updates.
3. Improve discovery without losing the human feel
We want it to become easier to find what is nearby, what is open, what is in season and what fits a particular trip. Better search and map journeys matter, but the story and personality of each stall should remain the heart of the experience.
4. Build confidence around buying and selling
Clear hours, realistic availability, useful photos, understandable payment choices and reliable order updates all create trust. We will focus on the small details that help a first-time customer feel comfortable buying from an independent seller.
5. Keep Country Stalls mobile, practical and fun
The site is designed for real life: one hand on a phone, a patchy rural signal, a car full of people asking where to stop next. We will keep tuning the mobile experience and the installable web app so useful information stays quick to reach.
6. Grow with the community, not around it
Customers can add a stall they have found. Sellers can tell us which tools actually save time. Local organisations and communities can help make their region easier to explore. The best version of Country Stalls will be shaped by the people using it.
What to watch out for
Country Stalls is brand new, which means the next few months should be lively. Here are the signals that things are moving:
- A busier map: more farm gates, stalls, markets, mobile sellers, makers and small shops appearing around the country.
- Richer stall pages: better photos, clearer opening details, seasonal products, payment choices, delivery information and seller stories.
- Smoother online buying: more sellers choosing integrated checkout where it makes sense for their operation.
- Better ways to explore: refinements that make planning a local trip or finding something nearby feel easier.
- Regional momentum: communities adding the places they already love and helping turn hidden gems into useful local trails.
- Honest launch updates: what we have improved, what surprised us and what we are learning from the people on the ground.
Because listings come from independent sellers and community discoveries, details can change. Check opening information before a long drive, contact the seller when necessary, and let us know when something needs updating. A useful map is a shared effort.
And yes, we plan to have some fun
Local shopping should not feel like filing paperwork. Country Stalls is about the joy of turning down a road you have never taken, finding the best strawberries of the season, discovering a tiny flower stand, or meeting the maker behind something brilliant.
Among the ideas we are keen to explore are seasonal stall trails, community favourites, road-trip challenges, unexpected local finds, seller spotlights and playful reasons to explore a new corner of the map. Some will work, some will evolve, and the community will almost certainly suggest better ideas than ours. That is part of the fun.
A big Christchurch hello
Behind the screens, this launch has involved maps, payment flows, seller tools, mobile testing, product pages, late coffees, long lists, enthusiastic debates and a great many reminders that simple experiences usually take a lot of work.
We are proud to be building Country Stalls from Christchurch for communities across New Zealand. We are also very aware that a platform for local people has to earn its place by being useful. That is the job now—and we are ready for it.
Come grow it with us
If you buy local, start with the Country Stalls map and see what is near you. If you sell something good, read how Country Stalls works for sellers and create your stall. If you spot a roadside gem that is missing, add the stall you found so somebody else can discover it too.
We are live. We are listening. And we cannot wait to see what New Zealand puts on the map.
Welcome to Country Stalls. Yay—let's go find something good.
